Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Google Employs 2B LOC

Latest data show that Alphabet Inc. (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Google’s online system runs on two billion lines of code (LOC), which is 5,000 times as much as the LOC that powered the first space shuttle.

Moreover, Google Chrome runs on 5.40 million LOC, which is 135 times greater than the LOC used to power a regular iOS app.

Google, Number 1 in LOC Usage

The company accounts for the biggest LOC powering systems and apps today, beating the likes of Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ:FB) and Microsoft Corp. (NASDAQ:MSFT) massively.

The first Unix operating system (OS) of AT&T Inc. (NYSE:T)only runs on 10,000 LOC. Microsoft Windows 3.1 and Windows 7 only runs on 2.30 million and 39.30 million LOC, respectively. A typical HD DVD player uses 4.50 million LOC while an F-35 fighter jet used 24.70 million LOC. Online role-playing game (RPG) World of Warcraft runs on 5.25 million LOC. Meanwhile, Facebook runs on 61 million LOC.

Given these figures, it is evident that Google is far ahead in the industry in terms of LOC running systems and apps.

Google Focuses on Mixed Reality (MR) Technology

In other recent news, Google is reportedly shifting its focus on an MR technology, which powerfully integrates augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR), ditching its efforts to develop a VR headset that will compete against the Oculus Rift of Facebook. The purported MR gadget is said to be standalone, which means that a user does not need to link it to a smartphone or a laptop for him or her to use it.

However, it is important to note that Daydream, which was introduced at the annual Google I/O 2016 Conference recently, is not yet the company’s major push in MR technology. Daydream will work with select Android Nougat units, not fitting the technology giant’s vision of a standalone system. While the California-based company is dedicated on the development of Daydream, it considers the gadget as a significant first step rather than as the grandest, long-term scheme.
