Latest reports suspect that Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) will be introducing a new 10.5-inch iPad Pro 2 next year and massive changes to the device such as AMOLED panels in 2018.
Speculations have it that the upcoming iPad Pro 2 series will come in two size variants: 12.9-inch and 10.5-inch. The latter is believed to replace the current smaller version, 9.7-inch. Accordingly, these next-generation models will carry a cutting-edge A10X chip manufactured by Taiwan Semiconductor Mfg. Co. Ltd. (NYSE:TSM). Meanwhile, the upcoming low-cost 9.7-inch iPad will be powered by an A9X chip, which is manufactured by Taiwan Semiconductor Mfg. as well.
iPad Sales Performance
Despite the introduction of new additions to the iPadlineup, analysts project that iPad sales will continue to decline until 2018 when Apple finally launches a completely redesigned product line. Ming-Chi Kuo, a KGI Securities analyst predicts that Apple will end 2016 with about 35 million to 45 million iPad units sold for the year.
Nonetheless, enterprise and government demands for iPads have been going strong lately. As Frank Gillet, a Forrester analyst, noted, the enterprise market has a stronger demand for iPads than the massive consumer market. Moreover, it is widely believed that the purported 10.5-inch iPad Pro 2 will likely appeal to the education and enterprise markets.
MacBook Pro Upgrade
The technology giant is also said to have been working on a major overhaul of the MacBook Pro lineup after more than four years since the last.
Accordingly, the upcoming MacBook Pro will be thinner. It will also come with a touch screen strip and upgraded graphics card. People familiar with the matter indicated that the new laptops had already been undergoing tests since earlier in 2016.
The next-generation MacBook Pro product line is expected to be unveiled next month together with the next-generation iPhone and iPadlineups and the iOS 10. Apple expects the redesigned MacBook Pro lineup to lift the poor sales performance in the PC market, which is primarily brought about by the shift to handheld devices.
