Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has released an update for Apple Music that lets users download music from the app to their SD card.
The update is a significant move for the company especially in support of Apple Music on Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Google’s Android devices. The update is also part of the company’s fulfillment of the demand by customers. This means the feature will allow offline listening for Apple Music customers using Android devices.
Apple Music was launched in November 2015 for the Android platform though the launch for iOS devices came earlier. The update will mainly favor Apple Music customers on Android, who have massive music collections because recent Android devices allow microSD cards that have a large capacity for data.
The update also includes the whole schedule listings for Beats 1. It also lets users seek out music by compilations and composers, a feature that will be particularly useful to the lovers of classical music. As far as design is concerned, Apple did a good job making sure that the app fits into the design standards of Android. The App was also given 3-star ratings and perhaps this is understandable because a few things are missing such as support for Chromecast.
The new update is a great indicator that Apple is willing to look beyond the comfort of making the ideal user experience just for iOS devices but also doing the best it can to offer the best across other platforms. An Apple Music subscription for Android fans costs $10 per month. It was initially launched as a beta and is still operating as a beta even after the updates. The Apple Music app marks what most Android fans hope will be the strategy that Apple will use to extend more of its services to the Android platform.
SD support will probably make iPhone and iPad users wonder why Apple has not thought of expandable storage for its iOS devices. After all, it would be an extremely welcome feature.
