Comcast Corporation (NASDAQ:CMCSA) Integrates xCam, Voice Control Features On XFinity Home, Signs Deal With Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX)

Comcast Corporation (NASDAQ:CMCSA) has recently revealed that it will be integrating the XFinity Home, a smart-home solution, with the xCam security camera and voice control features. This reiterates the company’s shift toward smart-home technology, which is likely to be one of its business pillars in the future.

Earlier this week, Comcast also revealed that it has teamed up with Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) to provide its customers with a Netflix access on the XFinity X1 set-top box.

XFinity Home Enhancements

Daniel Herscovici, XFinity Home Senior Vice President (SVP) and General Manager (GM), emphasized that Comcast wants to deliver state-of-the-art services to its consumers.

The wiFi-enabled xCam has a 109-degree field of view and night vision. It is ideal for both indoor and outdoor use given its weather-resistance features, making it capable of recording high-definition (HD) videos 24/7. Users can preview footages up to the past 10 days and watch them live as well through the Xfinity Home online portal or app wherever they may be.

Meanwhile, the new voice control function allows users to easily command the X1 platform. They can have the system show camera footages on the TV by simply saying, “XFinity Home Cameras” into the voice remote.

At the same time, Comcast continues to include third-party features on the XFinity Home, collaborating with leading electronics companies such as Nest, Lutron, Chamberlain, and August Home.

Comcast is also expected to unveil new series of products such as a keypad, a sensor, a touch screen, among others.

Netflix Partnership

Further details of Comcast’s agreement with Netflix have not yet been disclosed but reports have it that their plans are likely to be carried out later this 2016.

While it comes as a surprise— Comcast and Netflix did not have a good history together— the collaboration between the two companies is meaningful for both. Netflix can increase its user base given the fact that Comcast is the biggest cable provider in the US. Similarly, Comcast can expand the offerings it provides to its subscribers with Netflix’s exclusive contents.
