Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) Enters Legal Pot Industry, Ties Up With Kind Financial

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) has implicitly expressed its support for regulated marijuana use and dispensary as it recently collaborated with Kind Financial, a startup that helps law enforcement agencies and businesses to track the market activities of legal pot with its tracking software, Agrisoft Seed to Sale.

With the partnership, Kind Financial, which has been operating and distributing its legal marijuana tracking software for about three years now, can now offer its platform on Azure Government, the exclusive government cloud of the technology giant.

What the Partnership Means for Both Companies

According to Microsoft, this collaboration— its first ever deal involving pot— with the California-based startup clearly indicates its support for the government, marijuana customers, and businesses by minimizing the gap among them through innovative solutions that benefit all of their interests.

Kind Financial, on the other end, noted that the technology company’s platform is the only one capable of meeting a set of standards guiding the regulation of pot use and distribution. With its government cloud, Microsoft will enable Kind Financial to help its clients track their sales more efficiently and in stricter compliance with existing laws.

Aside from benefiting each other with this collaboration, Kind Financial believes that it will also yield essential benefits for the US and its growing marijuana industry that are to become apparent in the long run.

Microsoft Tapping the Legal Marijuana Industry

Being primarily situated in Washington, where medical marijuana is legal, Microsoft believes that the legal pot industry is a potential driver of growth as the market becomes of a more and more significant value over time. Moreover, the software giant is confident that more regulations mean more transactions. In line with this, more innovative tools will be needed to satisfy and meet regulatory requirements— an area in which Microsoft sees a potential revenue stream.

In the US, there are already 25 states that have approved the legal use of marijuana for either medical or recreational purposes. Five more states are expected to legalize pot in the upcoming November ballot.
