Lebara, Macquarie Telecom, Hello Mobile, GoTalk and Pivotel Prepaid are the five mobile virtual network operators that will gain access to the Vodafone’s Group Plc (ADR) (NASDAQ:VOD) 4G network. The five will be in addition to the two that are already in existence; TPG Mobile and Kogan. The new move is expected to take shape over the next two weeks
According to Vodafone head of wholesale Paul Tierney, the company raring to go given that it has invested billions of dollars in building its infrastructure in its efforts to offer the best of services. Tierney further confirmed that the users of the new network operators will be privileged to have reliable services that will facilitate fast internet browsing, streaming or downloading of content.
In the recent years, Vodafone has been on a mission of global expansion of its 4G network. To stay true to its mission, the company purchased an 1800MHz band spectrum that is already in use within a wide range of metropolitan areas.
The band which was worth AU$68 million was through an auction held by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) and from which Vodafone won other various lots.
In a very calculate move, Lebara will be the first to join the 4G network on the 30th June while the rest four will come on board on the 6th July.
Vodafone now joins in Telstra’s Corporation Ltd (OTCMKTS:TLSYY) competition whose availability of the 4G network kicked off in April with its four MVNOs. The Australian giant may be ahead regarding speed, but Vodafone has vowed to keep its pace in offering a consistent LTE connection. In any case, the two were at 76% in network availability.
Besides, Vodafone also has the acknowledgment of having tied first for 4G latency at 54.71ms and has a prize for the best 3G latency, at 72.02ms.
Vodafone Australia CEO Inaki Berroeta argues that the company has been able to achieve a 40% growth in its network size given that it has been able to cover 95.3% of the 23 million Australian population.
