Despite the current competition between different social networks in providing live-streamed videos, Yahoo! Inc. (NASDAQ:YHOO) owned Tumblr is not looking back. The platform has launched live-streaming technology which will seek support from YouTube, YouNow, Kanvas and Upclose. Hence, it will not waste any time or money making its own.
The self-descriptively new service is dubbed live video. It joins the competitive market of Facebook Live from Facebook Inc (NASDAQ:FB), YouTube Live from Alphabet Inc (NASDAQ:GOOGL) Google, Periscope and Twitch from Twitter Inc (NYSE:TWTR) and Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) respectively.
However, Tumblr’s new service is more collective given that it is integrating its existing live video solutions into a cohesive hub. It current set of partners will also make it easy for its users who will be spoilt for choice and will also experience a smart balance between ubiquity and niche features.
The fact that it has a multi-platform support could expose it into scoring more marketing deals with competitive brands. There is a reason that made Tumblr choose the multi-platform route. It gives it a better chance of incorporating more streaming app partners in the future the likes of Facebook or Twitch and if the business terms will allow. Some of the partners on board include Mashable, Refinery29, MTV, and the Huffington Post all who will be streaming live events.
It will be very easy for Tumblr followers to share a stream given that it is one of the major social networks where one can find live streams and from a wide range of apps without necessarily having to rely just on Facebook or Twitter.
A person’s follower will receive notifications whenever one goes online. The video will appear on their Dashboard feeds, and the little badge on each video will show what platform is being used for the live-streaming service.
Nevertheless, as all this happens, many are on the look out to see how much more Tumblr will be able to unhook those who are hooked to the already existing live-streaming platforms. It may not have it easy given that Periscope and Twitch have already won the attention of tens of millions of viewers.
